| In Remembrance: Perry
Cooper Focus Three's other Senior Vice President, Perry Cooper, started in the music business at the ripe old age of 15, working in the mailroom at WINS radio. By the time he was 16,he was producing the #1 radio show in New York- Murray the K's Swinging Soirée. By the time Perry reached 21 he was Program Director of WPLJ FM in New York City.Having done everything he had desired in radio, he turned to the music business for his next challenge. After working in the promotion departments of Liberty Records, Chess-Janus Records, and Crowe Records, Perry became Director of National Album Promotion at Clive Davis' newly-formed Arista Records. After 2 years at Arista, he was offered the position of Director of Special Projects at the legendary Atlantic Records, where he stayed for the next 18 years. From Director of Special Projects, he was promoted to Director of Artist Relations, then Senior Director of Artist Relations/Publicity/TV. In 1983 he was made Vice President of Artist Relations/Media Development, and then Vice President of Artist Tour development, a new position and department at the company.After leaving Atlantic, Perry formed PERCO Artist Development and Management- a marketing, public relations, touring, media development, tour consultation, and managment company. While at Perco, Perry's clients included the likes of Phil Collins, AC/DC, Julian Lennon, Triumph, and Firehouse, just to name a few. Of joining forces with Barry and Bob at Focus Three, Perry said:" This is what I've always wanted to do- surround myself with same thinking people whom I respect, and whose goals in the music industry are compatible with my own." Perry passed away on May 28, 2005. All of us at Focus Three shall miss him. |
